「奈良・町家の芸術祭はならぁと２０２０」、こあエリア橿原・今井町（メインエリア）のキュレーション、芸術祭全体のディレクションを担当させていただきました。全体テーマとして「地球に優しいエコロジカルな芸術祭」を設定し、地球環境問題を現代美術を通して、私たちがどのように感じ – 考え – 選び – 行動していくべきかを見つめ直す芸術祭を開催しました。　
I was in charge of the curation of the main area of “Art Festival Hanarart 2020”, Imai-cho,Kashihara city in Nara prefecture and and the overall direction of the festival. The theme of the festival was “Earth Friendly Art Festival”, the concept of the festival was how we should feel, think, choose and act on global environmental issues through contemporary art.

「はならぁと」とは？

『奈良・町家の芸術祭はならぁと』は、2011年から始まった芸術祭。
地域価値の発掘作業を通して、奈良県の豊かな文化や暮らしを過去から未来に繋ぐ、今ここから発信するアートプロジェクトです。
　お掃除プロジェクトや空き家見学ツアー開催による町家利活用機運の向上、地元まちづくり団体主体の運営による地域力向上と現代芸術を通じた新しい価値の提案による住民の町に対する誇り・愛着醸成の機会、住民やアーティスト、来場者との交流促進による芸術普及や海外への新たな地域価値の発信を目標としています。

そして、それはいつか土へと　And, that will become soil

橿原市今井町、歴史的建造物が数多く残るこの場所で、空き町家、生活広場、公共施設の計８会場を舞台に、現代美術作家7組9名の展覧会を開催します。

はならぁと2020、キュレーター企画である「そして、それはいつか土へと」は、”素材”というキーワードからはじまりました。今企画において、出展作家9名の作品の主体となるのは、自然から生まれ、いつか地球へ還る素材です。作家が作品を制作する上でこの素材となる物質、作品過程について考察することで、環境問題への関わりを提議します。

出展作家9名の表現は、彫刻、水彩、写真、インスタレーションと多岐に渡りますが、人間のあり方、社会と人の関係性、人類を主体として提示する彼らの作品がどのように環境に相互作用していくのか、素材となる物質を出発点とした時に作家にとってどのような意味をもたらすのかを議論していきます。それは単なる材料でなく、いわば、生きているモノ、あるいは、生きていたモノであるからです。

美術作品の体となる素材、その物質はどのように生まれ、どのように作品へと姿を変え、そしてどこへ行き着くのか。地球環境と人間の関係性が変化しつつある時代にあって、美術作品という、本来作家が生み出し、そこで完結すべきものの行く末を見つめることにより、美術を通して古くから続いてきた環境と人間との関係を再考察する一点となることを期待します。

And, that will become soil

We are delighted to hold an exhibition with nine contemporary artists from seven groups at eight venues including traditional Japanese residences, public spaces and facilities in Imai-cho, Kashihara City, a historical town.

Hanarart 2020 curator project “And someday, it will be the soil” started with the keyword “medium”. The stem of the artists’ works in this project are based on “medium” from nature that will return to the earth someday. Through the selection of materials and the creation process, this exhibition aims to reveal various environmental issues.

The works cover a wide range of expression such as sculpture, painting, photography, and installation while they are all based on human beings, along with the relationship between society and humanity; their works present humanity as the subject that interact with the environment, they also signify creations of the medium they are using. This is because those are not just merely a “medium”, but, all in all , living things or things once alive.

How are medium modeling the form of art, how are they transformed to artworks, and where do they end up? In an era in which the relationship between human and the global environment is ever changing, we hope that, by looking at the future of artworks used to be created and completed all by artists, art will become a factor in the reconsideration of the traditional relationship between human and the environment.
